Church bells have a long history of being used to mark important local and national events. In common with cathedrals and churches around the Commonwealth, Skipton bells will ring out to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
On display in the Holy Trinity church tower are boards recording full peals rung for the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilees in 2002 and 2012. The Skipton bellringers hope to make it three in a row, with a peal for the Platinum Jubilee.
On Friday 3rd June 2022, the jubilee peal attempt will start at 3 pm. If successful, the performance will take about 3-and-a-quarter hours. This performance will also be our final event marking the centenary of the Holy Trinity bells that were recast in 1921.
